AIM’s Trucking and Mining Initiatives Press Release
On October 3rd, 2023, the AIM Platform announced the launch of its first two initiatives: the Zero Emission Trucking Alliance (ZETA), a buyers alliance for heavy duty trucking, and the Program on Decarbonizing the Mining of Metal and Minerals (D3M), an initiative to develop an aggregated funding approach to jumpstart the decarbonization of the mining sector. Heavy duty trucking and mining operations are responsible for around 3% and 1% of global energy-related emissions respectively, yet are not seeing adequate investment in technologies to meaningfully reduce emissions. ZETA and D3M aim to aggregate demand for low-carbon trucking and mining services from companies with ambitious scope 3 (value chain) decarbonization targets, and drive crucial funding for low-carbon technology into these hard-to-abate sectors.

The Advanced and Indirect Mitigation Platform (AIM) will serve as a hub for removing barriers to ‘value chain’ mitigation and coordinating collective mitigation action in sectors that require extensive investment or technological change to reduce climate impact. To jump start this work, AIM will organise expert stakeholders to develop guidance on how companies can measure and take credit for emission reductions in their value chain – a critical missing piece in the climate landscape today. This work can unlock billions in new private sector climate funding and propel the most challenging sectors towards decarbonisation.
